COMPANY INFO

The founders of Freshfield emphasize their commitment to environmental sustainability and climate awareness. They state that their health and nutrition products are designed to support both personal well-being and the natural environments people enjoy. While they advocate for healthy lifestyles and promote sports and wellness, the company shares limited public information about its own background. Freshfield offers only a small product line, with black seed oil being their primary product.

On March 20, 2025, we reached out via email requesting detailed product information, including any analyses or supporting materials. We did not receive a response. All available data about this brand’s oil was gathered through independent online research.

It is worth noting that only three companies replied to our inquiry: Piping Rock, Bionatal, and Prime Natural.

PACKING AND SAFETY SEAL

The product comes in a standard amber glass bottle with a plastic cap, consistent with packaging used by most black seed oil brands in the U.S. market. It features a standard transparent shrink wrap. However, unlike most brands, the liner inside the cap is actually sealed to the bottle neck, providing an additional layer of protection.

● While this seal is likely sufficient to prevent leakage, its reliability may be questionable under high temperatures, where black seed oil can expand by up to 20% during transportation.

SEEDS ORIGIN

There is no publicly available information regarding the origin of the seeds used in Freshfield black seed oil.

However, based on a direct comparison between the sample we received and other known black seed oil brands, we believe the oil is likely produced from Turkish seeds due to similarities in color, aroma, flavor, and bitterness profile.

OIL DISCRIPTION

The oil has a dark yellow, slightly cloudy appearance, with a pleasant herbal aroma and a bitterness level higher than medium.

In our assessment, it is virtually identical to oils from Heritage Store, Piping Rock, Zhou Nutrition, Healths Harmony, and also to brands officially recognized as Turkish black seed oils such as Sweet Sunnah Premium, Kiva, Prime Natural, Maju, Amazing Herbs Premium, Rawya, and Rawya Extra Strong.

Some testers from our team noted that this oil seems to have a slightly stronger aroma or flavor than other brands with otherwise identical characteristics. Under certain lighting, it also appears marginally darker, a trait we also observed in Rawya, Rawya Extra Strong, and Healths Harmony oils.

● This variation is not unusual for Turkish black seed oil, as elevation differences and climate variations — particularly between the cooler Black Sea coast and the warmer Mediterranean coast — can influence seed composition and oil properties.

THYMOQUINONE (TQ)

The label indicates 82 mg of TQ per 5g serving, which calculates to a 1.64% TQ concentration. Some product listings, including images on various marketplaces, promote a 1.6% TQ value, consistent with this calculation.

TQ level.jpg

There is also a claim on Amazon that the oil contains "X3 TQ"; however, closer inspection reveals that this refers to volatile oil content, not thymoquinone specifically. A graphic is used to suggest their oil contains three times more volatile oils than competing brands. Given that the actual TQ content is 1.64%, the "X3 TQ" claim appears to be misleading.

3X TQ.jpg

Assuming our analysis is correct and this oil is indeed of Turkish origin, the 1.64% TQ level is both reasonable and consistent with other Turkish brands, which report the following TQ values (none have publicly shared lab certificates)*:

  • Maju, Rawya, Rawya Extra Strong – Minimum 2%

  • Sweet Sunnah Premium – 1.71%

  • Kiva, Prime Natural – Over 1.5%

  • Amazing Herbs Premium – Minimum 1.2%

● As confirmed by experienced farmers, TQ levels can vary within a single country depending on farm elevation and regional climate. In mountainous regions like Turkey, this can lead to noticeable differences, especially between the northern Black Sea and southern Mediterranean farming zones.

Industry Clarifications:

(The following industry points are worth noting)

  • "Unrefined" ≠ Non-Filtered: Even unrefined oils are typically filtered and don’t contain seed particles.

  • "Cold Press" misuse on the label: The term is widely used without proof. True cold pressing should be validated by testing for compounds like Benzo(a)pyrene and related PAHs.

  • "Organic" ≠ Pesticide-Free: USDA standards still allow natural pesticides (§§ 205.601 - 205.602). No Nigella sativa seeds are entirely free from them.

  • "Non-GMO" claims are unnecessary: Nigella sativa is not genetically modified, and global demand doesn’t justify GMO cultivation.

FINAL RANKING #3-C

The #1 and #2 positions in our ranking are firmly held by the world’s strongest black seed oils — both made from Ethiopian Nigella sativa seeds.

Following these top performers, several Turkish black seed oils earned the #3 spot due to their slightly stronger aroma and flavor compared to other Turkish brands. These include Freshfield, Healths Harmony, Rawya, and Rawya Extra Strong.

After extensive and meticulous testing, our team concluded that Rawya and Rawya Extra Strong — identical in composition — show a slight edge in flavor over Freshfield and Healths Harmony. As a result, Rawya and Rawya Extra Strong are awarded sub-positions “A” and “B,” respectively.

Freshfield and Healths Harmony, on the other hand, showed no noticeable differences, even after deeper testing. However, we gave Freshfield sub-position “C” due to its packaging in a glass bottle, which better preserves oil quality over time.

Healths Harmony, packaged in plastic, takes sub-position “D” as this can potentially affect the oil’s quality during extended storage.
