COMPANY INFO

The founder of GuruNanda was introduced to Ayurveda from an early age and later became a certified practitioner after moving to the United States. He established GuruNanda with the mission of making Ayurvedic practices accessible to a broader audience.

Today, GuruNanda products are widely available in major U.S. retailers such as Walmart and HEB. The brand offers an extensive range of over 150 products, including supplements, vitamins, hair and skincare items, natural cosmetics, essential oils, and blended oil formulations. While black seed oil is not a core product, it has gained significant popularity, driven in part by viral TikTok videos.

● On March 20, 2025, we reached out via email to request detailed product information, including lab analyses and documentation. We did not receive a response. All information presented about this product was obtained through independent online research

It’s worth noting that only three companies responded to our inquiry: Piping Rock, Bionatal, and Prime Natural.

PACKING AND SAFETY SEAL

The product is packaged in a small amber glass bottle with a plastic cap-dropper system featuring a built-in pipette. It comes with a standard transparent shrink wrap. However, there is no inner liner inside the cap, and the bottle neck is not sealed with foil.

● While the sealing is relatively minimal, it may still be sufficient for a 2 oz bottle, as the low volume of oil reduces the risk of leakage — even under hot conditions, where black seed oil can expand by up to 20% during transport.

SEEDS ORIGIN

There is no publicly available information regarding the origin of the black seeds used in GuruNanda Black Seed Oil, and our investigation was unable to uncover any such details.

However, concerns have been raised on TikTok, where many users noted variations in oil color with each purchase. In response, the owner of GuruNanda addressed these concerns directly in a video, explaining that the company sources seeds from different suppliers, which can lead to color differences in the oil.

OIL DISCRIPTION

First and foremost, it’s important to note that this product cannot be included in the black seed oil ranking, as it is not a pure black seed oil. However, due to its popularity and the widespread perception that it is a pure oil, we are including this information to provide clarity.

The product is widely promoted — especially on TikTok, where GuruNanda has a strong presence — as “black seed oil enriched with vitamins D3 and K2.” Many videos claim the product contains “nothing added, nothing removed,” which has caused confusion among consumers. As a result, many believe it to be pure black seed oil, when in fact it is a supplement blend.

Nothing added, nothing removed

The company’s website includes a cautionary note advising individuals with soy allergies not to use the product. The product contains the following ingredients:

  • Vitamin D3

  • Vitamin K2

  • D-alpha tocopherol acetate (a form of vitamin E)

  • MCT oil (derived from coconut oil)

  • Black seed oil

  • Sunflower oil

  • Soy

Due to the presence of multiple ingredients, we were unable to identify the origin of the black seed oil by taste. While its flavor is slightly noticeable, it is not distinct enough to determine seed origin. In a video statement, the owner confirmed that the company uses different seed sources for each batch, depending on availability.

Different black seed oils reason

Likely in response to recurring complaints on TikTok, where some users noted that the product is not pure black seed oil, the company has revised its labeling. The website banner prominently displays a label with the title “BLACK SEED OIL”; however, this designation is absent from the new label on the recently received bottle.

The color of this supplemental blend resembles that of pure Ethiopian black seed oil, but the taste and aroma are not even close. It only faintly tastes like black seed oil.

THYMOQUINONE (TQ)

There is no available information regarding the thymoquinone (TQ) level in GuruNanda’s black seed oil supplement — not on the official website, sales platforms, or social media.

While the company owner frequently discusses TQ in videos and marketing materials, no specific claims or verified TQ levels have ever been provided. Given that the company uses different seed sources for each batch, the TQ content is expected to vary significantly, making it impossible for consumers to know what level of potency they are receiving with each purchase.

Industry Clarifications:

(The following industry points are worth noting)

  • "Unrefined" ≠ Non-Filtered: Even unrefined oils are typically filtered and don’t contain seed particles.

  • "Cold Press" misuse on the label: The term is widely used without proof. True cold pressing should be validated by testing for compounds like Benzo(a)pyrene and related PAHs.

  • "Organic" ≠ Pesticide-Free: USDA standards still allow natural pesticides (§§ 205.601 - 205.602). No Nigella sativa seeds are entirely free from them.

  • "Non-GMO" claims are unnecessary: Nigella sativa is not genetically modified, and global demand doesn’t justify GMO cultivation.

FINAL RANKING #BUSTED

This product is not pure black seed oil — it’s a supplement that only includes black seed oil as one of several ingredients.

Despite this, the company markets it as if it were 100% pure, leading others online to promote it the same way. This creates major confusion for consumers, especially those who don’t know how to spot the difference.

It appears in our ranking only because it's advertised as pure black seed oil. But here, it’s officially #BUSTED — because it’s not.
